WITH ENTHUSIASTIC SUPPORT, 2007 INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE BREAKS RECORDS
The 2007 Thinking Maps International Conference, A Language for All Learners, welcomed over 630 attendees on July 13 and 14, the largest Thinking Maps International Conference ever. Teachers, administrators, and consultants from as far away as Hawaii, Canada, and the United Kingdom converged in Grapevine, Texas for one and a half days of intensive theory and practice in elementary and secondary content-specific applications of Thinking Maps, best practices and Thinking Maps, and Thinking Maps in school and district leadership. The demand for some sessions was so great that the presenters graciously agreed at the last minute to repeat their session, allowing those turned away from the scheduled session another chance to attend.
Keynote speaker Ron Clark brought the assembled educators to their feet with his humorous and touching tales of teaching in rural North Carolina and in Harlem. Mr. Clark stayed for three hours to sign autographs after his speech.
Conference attendees saw the unveiling of the new Thinking Maps training manual, A Language for Learning, with nearly 100 pages of additional material. Several conference sessions offered samples of the new content, and Chris Yeager gave an overview of the manual.
The Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center served as the conference venue for the third year in a row, again providing elegant accommodations, seamless service, and fine dining, as well as fabulous shopping, spa services, shows, and golf.
A surprise raffle at the closing session of the conference awarded participants Thinking Maps materials, including A Language for Learning. The grand prize was free registration to the 2008 Thinking Maps International Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
